- The International Men’s Day is celebrated in more than 90 countries worldwide. We highlight the case of male suicide and campaign for improvement of men’s health.
International Men’s Day : History
- IMD was founded b Dr Jerome Teelucksingh, a history lecture at the University of West Indies in 1999.
- It is celebrated on 19th November worldwide to bring positive value of men, their communities and families.
Objective of IMD
- To promote positive role models
- To celebrate men’s positive contribution to the society
- To focus on men’s health and well being
- To highlight discrimination against men
- To promote gender equality and gender relations
- To create safer and better world


International Men’s Day 2022 theme
- One of the six pillar of IMD is to focus on men’s health, social engage, emotional, physical and spiritual, considering above, the theme of the International Men’s Day 2022 is – Helping Men and Boys.
Activities
- Public Seminars, Festivals, Fundraisers, Classroom, Activities at School and College level, Conferences, TV Programs, Prayer meeting, Award Ceremony etc.
Challenges
- Men have suicide rate 3 times higher than women
- 1 out of 3 men have been victim of domestic violence
- Death of men on average 4 – 5 years before women
- Lung cancer in men is nearly twice that of women
- Heart diseases in the men are nearly twice to those women
