  • It is observed on 29th October to raise awareness of the prevention and treatment of the condition, and ensure better care and support for survivors. 
  • It is an opportunity to raise awareness of the series nature and high rates of stroke. The stroke can reduce by public awareness about risk factors and sign of strokes.

Why stroke matters?

  • A stroke can happen to anyone, at anytime and anywhere it is leading cause of disability worldwide and the second leading cause of death, but almost all strokes could be prevented.
  • This year 2022, 12.2 million people will have stroke, 6.5 million die as a result of stroke.

Why stroke occurs?

  • The stroke happens when the blood supply to the part of brain is not reach.
  • The brain cells can be damaged if the blood does not circulate in that part .
  • The impact of stroke may be short term / long term and it depends upon how quickly treatment is given to that part of brain.
  • The patient can survive includes disability, mobility, speech and feelings.

Facts about stroke

  • It is a condition when the blood supply to the brain is interrupted due to clot in artery supplying blood to the brain.
  • It will cause oxygen starvation and causes damage of brain.
  • The part of brain stopped to get blood supply depends upon severity of disability. Stroke may occur to any one, one out of four adults at an age of 25 will have stroke occurs.
  • The incidence of stroke increases as the age of human increases. The chances of stoke for 60 years old is better than 50-year age person.

Sign of Stroke

It is very important to know the sign of stroke and provide immediate emergency medical care can save lives and improve the outcome for survivors. The key signs of stroke are

  • Facial drooping
  • Arm weakness on one side
  • Difficult in speech
  • Loss of balance
  • Change of vision

Types of Strokes

Ischemic strokes

  • Ischemic stroke occurs due to obstruction of blood to the brain.  
  • An obstruction of blood flow in the blood vessel can cause a blood clot, it is called as cerebral thrombosis.
  • The main cause of cerebral thromboses are fatty deposits in blood vessels and arteries (atherosclerosis).
  • Blood vessels may be blocked by blood clot to any part of body, large arteries, upper part of check and neck or heart.

Hemorrhagic strokes

  • Hemorrhagic strokes happen when a debilitated vein breaks and seeps into the mind.
  • The blood develops and makes tension on the encompassing mind tissue. These drains can be brought about by an aneurysm or an arteriovenous distortion (AVM).

  • Severe physical disability
  • Communication difficulties
  • Loss of work, income and social networks
  • Change in think and feel

Stroke treatment

  • Early reorganization
  • Admit in specialized stroke unit
  • Clot busting drugs tPA or thrombolysis increases the chance of good outcome by 30%

Stroke Prevention

The World Stroke Organization has a target to cut stroke by one half by 2030. Most of the stroke is prevented by

  • Control high blood pressure
  • Exercise 5 times per week
  • Eat healthy and balance diet
  • Reduce cholesterol
  • Maintain healthy weight
  • Stop smoking
  • Reduce alcohol intake
  • Manage diabetes
  • Manage stress and depression

  • To create maximum awareness among pupils to take step for prevent stroke
  • To send consistent message to the world regarding global stroke issues
  • Policy makers take action and investment in stroke higher on national, regional and international public health agendas
  • To give specialist treatment, quality care and support for stroke survivors
