World cities day celebrates Urban October to an end on 31st October each year. It was first celebrated in the year of 2014.
Theme of World Cities Day 2022
- The world cities day is held in a different city each year and focusses on specific theme.
- This year Shanghai, China is selected under the theme ACT LOCAL TO GO GLOBAL.
Objective
- To bring different partners come together to share their knowledge to local action and discuss what is needed to empower local and regional government to create greener and sustainable cities.
- To share and hear from best instances of participatory cycles and incorporation connected with SDG restriction that can be extrapolated and customized to various settings.
- To define concrete hands-on learnings and give suggestion regarding effective implementation of SDGs to reduce inequalities within cities and across territories.
- Local action that can help the inequality gap and to strengthen the connection and discussion on the theme of World Habitat Day Mind the Gap. Leave No One and No Place Behind
Sustainable Goal
- The local action is critical to achieve sustainable goal by 2030.
- UN-Habitat has been at the forefront of SDG localization since the very endorsement of the Agenda 2030.
Expected Outcomes
- Promoting the acceleration of SDG implementation in cities and territories among stakeholders and constituencies.
- Implement recommendations to foster inclusive policies and to raise the voices of the most left behind
