Purana Qila
- The Purana Qila was built by Sher Shah Suri, 2nd Mughal emperor of Humayan.
- Earlier, Padma Vibhushana Prof. BB Lal carried out excavation inside the fort in the year 1954 and 1969 – 73.
- The Archaeological Survey of India begin excavation oat the Delhi’s Purana Qila again.
- This excavation is done by Shri Vasant Swarnkar and this is third excavation at Purana Qila after the Year 2013 – 14 and 2017 – 18.
Objective of Excavation at Purana Qila
- To exposure and preservation of the trenches in the Year 2013 – 14 and 2017 – 18.
- During the last excavation, evidence of layers of Mauryan Period was found.
- This time focus on the traces of painted grey ware finding in stratigraphical context.
- The painted grey belonging to 900 BC, and earthen pottery sequence from Maurya to Shunga, Kushana, Gupta, Rajput, Sultanes and Mughal Periods.
- Excavated Artefacts such as terracotta toys, kiln burnt bricks, beads, parers, terracotta figurines, seal etc. excavated earlier is now displayed at the Archaeological Museum inside the fort complex.
