Meaning of Black Spot
The black spot is a spot where road accidents and fatalities ( Person’s death ) occurs frequently. The Government of India, Ministry of road, transport and highway identified 5803 black spots from year 2016 to 2018.

Government action on Black Spot
- The ministry has addressed the issue of road safety-based education, engineering, enforcement and emergency care and taken various initiatives as below.
Education
- Awareness campaigns on road safety through electronic media, print media etc
- Observance on national road safety month / week every year for spreading awareness among people for road safety
- Certificate course on road safety being implemented in Indian academy of highway engineers
- Education on traffic rules given to public
Road Engineering
- High priority to identify black spots
- Road safety is integral part of road design and planning stage
- Estimates rectification of road which are identified as black spots
- Guideline for facilities of pedestrian persons who are disable on national highway is issued to states and union territories.
Vehicle Engineering
- Safety standards such as airbags, anti-breaking system tyres, crash test, whole vehicle safety conformity of production have improved
- Fitment of speed limiting devices on all transport vehicles
- Setting up inspection and certification centres for testing fitness of vehicles
Enforcement
- Motor vehicle act, 2019 provides strict penalties for violation of traffic rules
- Guideline for protection of GOOD SANARITANS as per MV act 2019 published
- Provides cash less treatment of victims of the accident during golden hours
- NHAI has made provision for ambulances at all toll plaza on the corridor of national highways
- 297 ambulances have been upgraded to basic life support as per AIS 125
