Full form of SCO
The full form of SCO is Shanghai Cooperation Organization. It is a permanent intergovernmental international organization.
History of SCO
- The SCO was proclaimed on 15th June, 2001 in Shanghai by the Republic of Kazakhstan, the People’s Republic of China, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan.
- All the above countries except Uzbekistan, were members of Shanghai Five done agreement on confidence building in military field in the border area and agreement on the mutual reduction of armed forces in the border area. After inclusion of Uzbekistan, Shanghai Five is renamed as SCO.
Goal of SCO
- Strengthening mutual confidence
- Good neighbourly relations among members countries
- Promoting effective cooperation in politics, trade and economy, culture, education, science and technology, tourism, transportation, stability in region, environmental protection etc.
- International efforts to curb terrorism, separatism and extremism in central asia

- Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran and Mongolia
Which countries are dialog partner status with SCO?
- Azerbaijan, Armenia, Cambodia, Nepal, Turkey and Sri Lanka — have a dialogue partner status
How SCO work?
- The heads of state councils are the highest decision making in the SCO. It meets once every year to take decision and important instruction regarding SCO activity.
