What is EVM?
The full form of EVM is electronic voting machine.
Important Questions of EVM
- An Electronic Voting Machine consists of Control Unit and a Balloting Unit – joined by a cable.
- The Control Unit is with the Presiding Officer or a Polling Officer and the Balloting Unit is placed inside the voting compartment.
- A polling officer in charge of control unit will press the ballot button, after voter can register vote by pressing blue button on theBalloting Unit against the candidate and symbol of his choice.
Can EVMs be used in areas where there is no electricity?
- EVMs run on an ordinary 6-volt alkaline battery therefore, even in areas with no power connections, EVMs can be used.
What is the maximum number of votes which can be cast in EVMs?
- An EVM can record a maximum of 3840 votes. The total number of electors or voters in a polling station not greater than 1500.
What is the maximum number of candidates which EVMs can cater to?
- EVMs can cater to a maximum number of 64 candidates. There is provision of allotment of maximum 16 candidate on one balloting unit. If the total number of candidates exceeds 16, up to three additional Balloting Units can be attached to cater to a maximum number of 64 candidates.
