Success Story – Orphanage to IAS Officer Mohammed Ali Sahib

 

Family background

  • IAS officer Mohammed Ali Shihab was born on 15th march, 1980 in Edavannappara, a village of Malappuram district, Kerala. 
  • He is from very poor family, facing financial crisis. 
  • He sold bamboo baskets with his father. 
  • His father passes away when he was just 11 year old. 
  • He has four siblings. 
  • His mother sends two daughters and one son to orphanage in Kozhikode.
  •  He is one of them in orphanage. 
  • He spent almost 10 years in orphanage. 
  • This orphanage is boon for him and change his life. 
  • In spite of limited resources and facilities, he concentrated in study. We can say that – no need much more for smart students.

Success Journey

  • He stated that – When ha was in orphanage, he studied till late night and use torch of dim light under the bed sheet for reading. 
  • He cleared state level public service examination. 
  • He also done teacher job at government school. 
  • He has started preparation of competition in extra hours. 
  • He worked as peon in Kerala Water Authority. 
  • He also worked as clerk. He applied for distance education for BA degree while working as peon in the Kerala Water Authority. 
  • He completed graduation at the age of 27 years.

Journey of IAS Officer

  • New Delhi based Zakat foundation conducted entrance examination in Kerala. He was part of this examination and cleared it. 
  • He moves to Delhi for examination preparation. 
  • He already attempted prelim exam in the year of 2007 and 2008. 
  • He cracked civil service in 2011 in his third attempt. 
  • He first served as the Assistance Commissioner of Dimapur District. 
  • He is now additional secretary of power ministry, Nagaland.
